Wheatgrass
I was all excited to post pictures of the trays of fresh wheatgrass we are growing, but alas I can’t seem to find the USB cable for the camera so photos will have to wait.
It has been some time since I’ve grown wheatgrass regularly but with all the reading and video watching we’ve been doing in preparation for the blog I was inspired to dig out my trusty Porkert manual juicer and wheatgrass seeds and get going.
The first couple of trays we did I had some trouble with mold (which is entirely common when growing wheatgrass) but after Alli did some quick research we tried moving the trays from atop the fridge to on top of the fish tank with the air filter blowing across the trays. This seemed to solve the problem quite well we are pleased to report. Additionally I have switched from using soil which can be a touch messy for inside the house (I use it for houseplants, but I am replanting trays every few days so it gets tedious). Vermiculite is definitely my choice for easy growing with little mess. I just used a regular brand I found at Canadian Tire and supplement it with kelp fertilizer which I found at my local hydroponics supply store.
Alli hasn’t had a chance to try any juice yet, but she’s decided to buy into all my raving about it and give it a shot to see if my tales of energy boosts, clear thinking and generally feeling good are overstated or if it is the superfood that many have come to believe it is. In any case, I highly recommend it to anyone.
